Let's get real for a second – education and jobs have no direct connection!
Tue Dec 2, 2025
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - APJ Abdul Kalam
Let's get real for a second – education and jobs have no direct connection. Yeah, you heard that right. We've been sold this narrative that education equals job equals money, but here's the truth: if your only goal is making money, then honestly, investing in a business or other ventures might give you better returns than spending 15-20 years in traditional education.
So why bother with education at all?
Here's what most people miss: education is for living life, not just earning money. Think about it – you can have millions in your bank account, but without wisdom and knowledge, you'll never truly know how to use, invest, or preserve that wealth. Real education teaches you how to live, not just how to earn.
And by education, we don't mean just textbooks and exams. We're talking about moral values that shape your character, worldly wisdom that helps you navigate life, learning from experiences that textbooks can't teach, and life skills that actually matter in the real world.
Let's bust a myth: exam scores aren't life report cards. Your child's marks show just one dimension – how well they understand a specific syllabus at a specific time. That's it. Everyone has different learning styles, different strengths, and different ways of processing information.
Want proof? If jobs were only about marks, then the college toppers would be running Google instead of Sundar Pichai. But they're not, because real success demands overall development – skills that come from diverse learning experiences, not just textbooks.
Here's a question every parent needs to answer. Quick scenario – which would you choose? Option A: Your child earns a huge package abroad, but has no moral compass, no values, and is disconnected from family. Option B: Your child earns well, lives with you, values family, and leads a balanced, happy life.
Most parents choose Option B, right? Because ultimately, we all want peace, happiness, and meaningful relationships. And that comes from balanced education, not just job-oriented education.
When kids internalize this narrow view, something scary happens. They start viewing everything through the lens of "Will this get me a job?" They miss out on exploring subjects they're passionate about, lose curiosity about the world, skip learning valuable life skills, and forget to actually enjoy their childhood.
The biggest loss? They sacrifice their present worrying about the future, when actually their present is the most important thing. We're pushing them to stress about their future when they should be experiencing, exploring, and enjoying their now. This present time is what shapes who they become, not exam pressure or career anxiety.
Please don't connect education with jobs, especially for kids in Class 10 and below. Instead, spark curiosity. Let your kids explore the wonders of science and experiments, dive into fascinating historical stories, grapple with unsolved problems and theories, and discover what makes their eyes light up.
Teachers, you're the game-changers here. Take students on intellectual adventures. Show them the why behind concepts, not just the what. Make learning irresistible. Let them explore with self-discipline and self-confidence, not fear and pressure.
Here's the perspective shift: a job is just a by-product of education. You don't study to get a job. You study excellently, and jobs naturally follow when you want them. The real formula is simple – hard work plus excellence equals magic. When you chase excellence with discipline and confidence, opportunities chase you.
The most important thing we're forgetting is letting children enjoy their childhood. They should be playing freely, learning through exploration, making mistakes without fear, and living in the present. When we make everything mechanical and goal-oriented, we rob them of their most precious resource – their present moment.
Education isn't a ticket to employment. It's a toolkit for life. It teaches you how to think, not what to think. How to live with dignity, not just how to earn a living. How to be a good human, not just a successful professional.
So let's stop reducing our kids to their marks and their future paychecks. Let's give them the gift of well-rounded education that values curiosity, character, and joy just as much as career prospects. Because at the end of the day, we're not just raising employees – we're raising humans who need to thrive in every dimension of life.
